STEM-Infusing the Elementary Classroom by Miranda Talley Reagan

March 30, 2018

With the development of our new Innovation Lab in progress I became more focused on finding quality ideas for STEM lessons. After launching the first STEM lesson of my very own, I was able to reflect on it and the subsequent learning outcomes. Although I was very happy with how the lesson turned out, I was curious to see how I could have kicked it up a notch! After doing lots of research and reading reviews on Amazon, I decided to give this book a try. This book is a great resource because not only does Reagan share lesson ideas, but she also does a great job of explaining how these lessons are designed and put together through a collaborative process. I highly recommend it as it definitely offers a great way to grab ideas on development and implementation strategies!

Jimmy Casas takes his personal experiences as first a student and then as an exceptional school leader and packs both into this book to deliver a tremendously positive message! Casas reminds us that school culture is based on basic principles such as caring, kindness, compassion and honesty. This book is a great, comfortable read, that feels like you're having a sincere conversation with the author.

Lead Like a PIRATE: Make School Amazing for Your Students and Staff by Shelley Burgess and Beth Houf

June 11, 2017

It's all in the title! This book definitely encourages us to make school amazing for our students and staff! Another winner for me! Burgess and Houf share their personal and professional stories of their journey towards leadership. For me, it was very comforting to hear that although many of us have struggles, it can and does get better! These two admirable leaders share how they managed to turn those struggles into victories; stories which are definitely motivators for us all! I read this book over the summer and was even more eager and excited to get back to school and do my part to create an amazing school environment for my students and colleagues. I love this book so much- a MUST READ for any educator!
